Although May is the beginner of the summer, the rainy season May is a very good month to do a trek in Sapa area. There is quick shower occasionally. The sky is clear with more sunshine. The average temperature is around 17 degree C. The rainfall is around 285mm. Indeed May is a very good month to travel to Sapa. The most popular mean of transport people used to take to get to Sapa is the overnight train leaving daily from Hanoi train station at about 20:00pm and arriving in Laocai train station at about 6:00 am the following day. Arriving in Laocai, they can either take a public bus or hire a car to get to Sapa town. The alternative option is to hire a car from Hanoi and travel through Thai Nguyen, Yen Bai to Sapa. The road transfer from Hanoi to Sapa taking about 8 hours offering you the opportunity to discover beautiful scenery along the way. Those who are on budget can book a public bus ticket at My Dinh bus station. These are big bus where soft sleepers are available.

If you already plan a trekking tour in Sapa in May then try to find out your trek and get it booked as soon as possible since there are lot of Vietnamese travelers traveling to Sapa during this period. Most of Vietnamese travelers take the overnight train departing Hanoi on Friday night and arriving Lao Cai train station on Saturday morning. They spend the weekend either doing a trek or visit a highland market. If your time frame is flexible, we recommend you coming to Sapa on week days.
